The Strength Tarot card is the first in the second batch of seven cards in the Tarot Journey, following The Chariot . Strength is one of the three Platonic Virtues represented in Tarot–Temperance and Justice–the two others. The fourth virtue, Prudence happens at the pentacle moment of achieved wisdom.

The background is solid yellow, representative of strength, creativity and enlightenment. A woman is standing in a lush green valley with trees and a single mountain peak in the far distance. The valley and trees are symbolic of growth and her being attune with nature. The single mountain peak in the distance represents a goal or an obstacle.

A lemniscate halo–a symbolic of infinity–appears over her head. A vine of red roses complete with thorns, adorns her head as a crown and is also a belt-like sash over her white gown. The red roses are representative of passion–the color red representative of the element of fire. White is symbolic of purity, innocence–the element of air, symbolic of emotion. The juxtaposition of colors serve as a metaphor for duality and balance.

She is calmly and lovingly looking down at a docile lion as she pets him–one hand on top of his head, and one below his mouth. It appears as if she is holding his jaw closed. His tale dangles between his legs and he is not in an aggressive state. She is dominant and he is submissive. She has infinite, innate courage, just like the lemniscate halo’s symbolism suggests.

Possible Meanings in a Tarot Reading:

In a Tarot reading, the Strength Tarot card denotes courage. It is reminiscent of the same carefree nature in The Fool Tarot card since she doesn’t seem to be thinking about her actions. A balance of inherent fearlessness and confidence can result in both emotional and physical strength, allowing complete control of a situation. This is a lesson that the querent can take as guidance to conquer and persevere even in the most strenuous of times.
